2019 was an incredible year of community support, essential home modifications, and growing partnerships for Happy 2 be Home. From ramp installations and generator setups to vibrant community events and media interviews, here is a look back at the major milestones and events that shaped our mission throughout the year.
📰 News & Organization Milestones
- Media Features & Community Outreach: Board members Scott Hamrick and Susan Wendel were featured on 1560 AM’s Good Day Chester County segment, sharing the story of how Happy 2 be Home began and highlighting our ongoing work in the community.
- Generous Community Grants & Donations:
- STB Bus Company: Contributed $900 raised during their annual Mother’s Day Plant Sale.
- United Way of Boyertown: Committed to a $1,000 donation over the year.
- Junior Woman’s Club of Boyertown: Generously donated $500 from their annual Girls Night Out Basket Raffle.
- Digital Communication: Continued building our network through our text-to-join newsletter system (HAPPY2BEHOME to 22828) to share real-time project updates and event announcements.
🛠️ 2019 Home Modification Projects
Throughout 2019, we worked closely with families, contractors, and volunteers to complete essential accessibility projects and address urgent home safety needs:
- Penelope & Kevin: Completed ramp installations for both homes, providing safe and accessible entryways.
- Alaina Family: Welcomed 7-year-old Alaina and her family, installing a back-up generator and initiating front door modifications with ramp access.
- Gabriella Disaverio: Completed new flooring, plumbing improvements, and sump pump installations to ensure her home remains safe and accessible.
- Elliott & Henry (Follow-up Project): Reconnected with the family as the boys grew to initiate contractor bidding for a home ceiling lift system to assist with daily transfers.
- Elena, Rubi, & Michael: Welcomed new children to the H2bH family, advancing plans for Elena’s garage-to-bedroom conversion, Rubi’s accessible bedroom and bathroom, and initial home visits for Michael.
🥞 Community Events & Fundraising
- 2nd Annual Designer Purse Bingo: Hosted a sold-out event on February 2nd at Keystone Fire Hall in Boyertown, raising over $2,400.
- Annual “If You Build It, They Will Run” 5K: Welcomed over 100 runners and walkers on August 10th with a live broadcast by WBYN radio, raising over $6,000.
- Annual Classic Car Show: Gathered more than 200 display cars on a beautiful September afternoon at New Hanover United Methodist Church, raising approximately $4,000.
- Guest Beertender Night at Stable 12: Raised over $900 at Stable 12 Brewing Company in Phoenixville on July 15th, featuring live acoustic music donated by Michael Kropp.
- Friendly’s Family Night Out: Partnered with Friendly’s for a community dining fundraiser in July, raising over $300.
