2019 Year in Review: Building Access, Safety & Hope

December 28, 2019

2019 was an incredible year of community support, essential home modifications, and growing partnerships for Happy 2 be Home. From ramp installations and generator setups to vibrant community events and media interviews, here is a look back at the major milestones and events that shaped our mission throughout the year.

📰 News & Organization Milestones

  • Media Features & Community Outreach: Board members Scott Hamrick and Susan Wendel were featured on 1560 AM’s Good Day Chester County segment, sharing the story of how Happy 2 be Home began and highlighting our ongoing work in the community.
  • Generous Community Grants & Donations:
    • STB Bus Company: Contributed $900 raised during their annual Mother’s Day Plant Sale.
    • United Way of Boyertown: Committed to a $1,000 donation over the year.

🛠️ 2019 Home Modification Projects

Throughout 2019, we worked closely with families, contractors, and volunteers to complete essential accessibility projects and address urgent home safety needs:

  • Penelope & Kevin: Completed ramp installations for both homes, providing safe and accessible entryways.
  • Alaina Family: Welcomed 7-year-old Alaina and her family, installing a back-up generator and initiating front door modifications with ramp access.
  • Gabriella Disaverio: Completed new flooring, plumbing improvements, and sump pump installations to ensure her home remains safe and accessible.
  • Elliott & Henry (Follow-up Project): Reconnected with the family as the boys grew to initiate contractor bidding for a home ceiling lift system to assist with daily transfers.
  • Elena, Rubi, & Michael: Welcomed new children to the H2bH family, advancing plans for Elena’s garage-to-bedroom conversion, Rubi’s accessible bedroom and bathroom, and initial home visits for Michael.

🥞 Community Events & Fundraising

  • 2nd Annual Designer Purse Bingo: Hosted a sold-out event on February 2nd at Keystone Fire Hall in Boyertown, raising over $2,400.
  • Annual “If You Build It, They Will Run” 5K: Welcomed over 100 runners and walkers on August 10th with a live broadcast by WBYN radio, raising over $6,000.
